CUSeeMe

Sunday morning. The workshop is over, wrapping up on Friday evening with the CUSeeMe event between Rotterdam, NYC, University of Iowa, and other locations. The technical quality was mediocre — which seemed to be an effect of line congestion outside of Finland. MUUMediaBase has a loaned line from the Helsinki City Library which is in the same block, it generally seems fast. we are on the cutting edge of consumer technology.

2 days left
Thursday. Two more days of the Web Design workshop — it seems to be going fine.

I remember
Well, days flicker. I remember the brilliant sun on the sea as I sit sleepily on the ferry coming in from Suomenlinna each morning. I remember the smell and sound of the cottonwood trees as I walk by them on the way home in the early morning hours. The many conversations I do not recall in detail. I began my Web Design class yesterday evening at MUUMediaBase. I also found out today from Finnair that I can change my ticket without penalty, so I think I will stay an extra week and do work here (even for money!). But this is a good thing as it will allow me to do some new work as well as continue working on the web site for the conference. Okay. now I head over to meet with Terhi and Oliver (who heads the New Media Department at the Finnish National Academy of Fine Art) to decide on a plan for teaching a short Web workshop next week.

netakademia
Well, the conference is now over. Most of the participants are leaving today. I am still working on the web site, but now I have to begin preparing for teaching the web workshop to a group of ten artists/members of MUUMediaBase as part of the netakademia. I feel a bit unprepared, but, on the other hand, that’s nothing new. Actually it is the normal state of things, and seldom interferes with the actual teaching and interactions with the students. keeps a state of un-knowing readily available which usually stimulates pro-action on the part of the students.
